About Me

Welcome to Doggsense!

I'm Jamie Stewart, and my passion for animals has shaped my entire life. From rescuing strays as a child to working with exotic species, my journey in animal behavior and training has been both rewarding and transformative.

I began my career at The Wildlife Waystation, a big cat sanctuary, which led me to Moorpark College’s prestigious Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) program. In 2003, I graduated with degrees in Exotic Animal Training and Management, Animal Husbandry, and Wildlife Education. Over the years, I’ve worked with more than 250 species, gaining hands-on experience through internships at the Los Angeles Zoo, Santa Barbara Zoo, SeaWorld, and Dolphin Quest, Tahiti.

As an animal trainer at SeaWorld, I worked with everything from sea lions and river otters to eagles and whales, using science-based, positive reinforcement techniques. (Fun fact: Not once did I need an electronic collar to get a 2,000-pound walrus to cooperate—and if a walrus doesn’t need one, neither does your dog!) My training philosophy is simple: Behavior is driven by emotion, and when we teach animals in a way that builds trust and understanding, there’s no need for fear or force.

My passion for education led me to earn a degree in Applied Animal Studies and later return to Moorpark College as an instructor in Zoo Skills.

In 2012, I moved to Kansas to raise my family. After a personal experience recovering my lost dog, Daisy Mae (a boarding facility lost her while I was out of state), I became a licensed private investigator specializing in the search and rescue of missing pets. This work deepened my commitment to helping at-risk animals, leading me to collaborate with The Pet Connection, where I’ve spent over eight years providing training and behavioral services for shelters and private clients. I am also a registered American Kennel Club trainer and am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Ethology to further my understanding of animal behavior.

Beyond my professional work, I’m a proud mother to two boys, Jackson and Hayes, and share my home with a lively group of animals, including Kiwi, a 30-year-old macaw, and three beloved rescue dogs.

At Doggsense, my mission is to help animals and their families build trust, confidence, and lasting harmony—without intimidation or outdated methods. I look forward to supporting you on your journey with your furry companion!
